Hall hits silver on blades

Laura Hall of Vernon Vortex struck silver in the Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Skating Championships

Two Vortex skaters represented Team B.C. at the Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Skating Championships last weekend in Edmonton.

Laura Hall was in a very fast division and had trouble with the shorter distances placing in the lower half in the 300 and 500 on the outdoor oval. With those events out of the way, Hall then concentrated on her best distance, the 3,000, and pocketed a silver medal. She struck bronze last year.

Nate Benn got tripped up in his first race and ended up at the bottom of the division. He fought his way back and ended up 10th in the 300-metre race. He then went on to score an impressive showing in the 3,000-m, finishing seventh overall. Benn also posted a seventh in the 500-m and relays in his first national finals.

The Vortex carry sponsorship from Interior Savings, Mackenzie Financial and Manulife. Information about joining this team can be found at www.vernonspeedskatingclub.com
