The Trail Smoke Eaters had one of their best outings of the season, as they erupted for six goals in the final two periods to hammer the Prince George Spruce Kings 7-3 in BCHL action on Friday at the Cominco Arena.
Nick Halloran scored twice and added two assists, and Max Newton had a three-point night as the Smoke Eaters won its third game of the season. The Smokies broke open a 1-1 game in the second period scoring three times on goals from Halloran, Newton, and Ross Armour to take a 4-1 lead. The Spruce Kings cut the lead to two at 3:26 of the third period but John Laurito made it 5-2 just 90 seconds later.
Corey Hoffman made it 5-3, but Cooper Leitch netted his seventh of the season and Halloran scored short handed with just over five minutes remaining to round out the scoring. Linden Marshall won his first game as a Smoke Eater in his second start in goal and was solid all night as P.G. outshot Trail 27-26 on the night.
Trail’s next game goes Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Coquitlam Express at the Cominco Arena in Trail.
