Hansen hot for Squires

Women's soccer leagues finally started in Vernon this week.

Dr. Lee/Squires Four Pub opened the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division with a 6-0 win over Rosters Sports Club Tuesday night at MacDonald Park.

Jacquie Hansen scored her first of two on a header. She opened up the scoring, converting a Irene Arrotta free kick.

Marisa Wiebe, Bobbi Cormier, Deanna Baker and Leah Frye completed the scoring for Dr. Lee. Lisa Arrotta recorded the shutout.

After capturing several Division 1 titles, Dr. Lee has made the switch to Masters.

 

 

Controllers edge VQA 2-1

The Controllers got their season started on the right foot with a 2-1 victory over Vernon Square Liquor Store VQA at Marshall Field #3.

The Controllers jumped out to an early lead. Two minutes in, a clearing attempt from VQA rolled right to Shawn Yargeau. She made no mistake by drilling the ball in just inside the left post.

Controllers’ forward Michele Wernicke got the ball at mid field and sent Ang Durfeld off to the races. Durfeld stepped around a defender and drove it past the keeper from 12 yards.

Carla Gibson scored for VQA in the second half, moving her way up the field past the opposing defenders.

 

 

Impact infiltrate Sistas 3-1

The defending Masters champion Grey Monk/Longhorn Impact defeated the Season’s Sistas 3-1 in their season opener at Marshall #1.

Derri Ann Cooper of the Impact drilled a shot top corner to open the scoring in the second half.

Sub Edeen Ramsey set up Suzie Andrews at the top of the box and Andrews found the back of the net.

The Sistas lone goal game on a pretty passing play from Lisa Geary and Wendy Horner. Horner one-timed a pass on the outside from Geary up to Diane Neudorf. Neudorf ran through the Impact’s defence and connected. With five minutes left, veteran Clare Carder tapped in the final goal.

 

 

 

Chick Kickers begin season with bang

The Chick Kickers began the season with a 4-0 victory over Shuswap KAOS at Marshall #4.

Michelle Johnson scored on a corner which was knocked in by the keeper. Johnson had another corner bounce off Mel Jacobs’ noggin over to rookie Jen Kemper, who buried it to make it 2-0 at the half.

In the second half, Johnson pounced on a rebound and slid it past the keeper. The Chick Kickers added another in the final minute from Jenny Garnett.

 

 

 

United shuts out Drillers

TED United of Salmon Arm grounded Goplen’s Drillers 2-0 at Marshall #5.

New players Gail Atha and Natasha Lyons fit in well with the Drillers, who got a strong showing from keeper Shawn Nickoli in their season opener.

 

 

 

Blazers brush back Celtics

The AF Blazers blanked the North Enderby Timber Celtics 1-0 in Division 1 play at MacDonald Park.

Kirman Nijjar scored early in the second half. Amber Maltman, Chelsea Hagen and Carly Major were outstanding on defence for the Celtics.

Charmaine Biagioni made a stellar diving save on an early penalty kick to keep the game scoreless at the break.

The Celtics had a few chances created by superbwing play from Sarah Ehman and Jacqui Morneau,.

No results were reported from the Little Tex Outlaws-Glenn Power game.
