Trinity Hansma now holds the Okanagan Valley junior and senior girls high jump records.
The Grade 11 Pleasant Valley student jumped 1.70 metres to break the senior girls mark by five centimetres in the Okanagan championships last Thursday at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.
Two girls had previously jumped 1.65m in 1983 and 1998. Hansma advances to the provincial high school meet, June 1-3, in Langley. The top-four finishers in each event move to the B.C. finals.
PVSS will also send the Okanagan zone junior girls team champions to provincials. Morgan Mills won the high jump, struck silver in the long jump and was part of the second-place 4×100 relay team with Sophia Ezzemouri, Sarah Holman and Jaeda Ostoforoff.
Holman was second in the discus and high jump, while Ostoforoff took silver in the 80 hurdles, topped the 200 and placed third in the 100. Mariya Blades of VSS Panthers was runner-up in the 100, while teammate Ally Carter was fourth in the long jump.
Mia Bennison of the Panthers uncovered gold in the junior girls 800 and 1,500, edging Annika Ariano of Seaton Sonics in the 1,500. Ariano was second in the 3,000 with her sister, Natalya, third. Natayla took second in the 1,500 steeplechase.
Josie Sexsmith of the Charles Bloom Timberwolves won the junior girls shotput, discus and javelin.
Megan Loland of Seaton dominated the senior women’s 400 hurdles and 400m dash, while Mariah Feist of the Vernon Christian Royals won the triple jump and finished third in the long jump.
Samantha Lowen of VSS took second in the 1,500 steeplechase and 3,000 run, while Seaton’s foursome of the Ariano sisters, Loland and Grade 8 sensation Brooke Lawlor was second in the 4×400 relay.
Kendall Rogers of VSS was second in the pole vault, while Czarina Wisse of the Panthers was third in the high jump and Natasha St. Denis of Vernon Christian placed third in the 100 hurdles.
Jacquelyn Kolotylo of Fortune won the javelin with teammate Michelle Fassbender third.
Jordan Campagnolo of the AL Fortune Falcons ruled the senior men’s shot put, while Jacob Taylor of PVSS struck gold in the junior javelin, earned silver in the discus and third in the shot put.
Nick Saxon of PVSS was second and Nathan Wong of VSS third in the junior long jump, while Jacob Molitwenik of Vernon Christian took silver and Rhys Larsen of VSS bronze in the senior high jump. Molitwenik was fourth in the long jump.
Brad Hladik of VSS placed second in the senior men’s discus, while Braden Kersey bagged third in the junior 1,500 and fourth in the 3,000.
Kohle Sweeney of VSS was second in the junior 100 hurdles, while Saxon posted fourths in the 100 and 200 and Molitwenik was fourth in the 800 and Adam Bugera of the Kalamalka Lakers was fourth in the senior 1,500.
Brothers Jacob and Ben Molitwenik, Ethan Jameson and Aaron Botterill ran to fourth in the 4×100 relay.
Grade 8s must apply for the provincials. The following athletes pocketed gold at Valleys: Jared Simpson of Fulton (2oo), Wilson McDowell of Fulton (high jump), Fraser O’Brien of Seaton (1,500), Torian Andrews of Seaton (800), Tiana Ginther of Fortune (high jump).
