Some of the best Peewee hockey players in the province are coming to Abbotsford.
The Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association is hosting the 2016 BC Hockey Peewee Tier1 Championship from March 12 to 18 at MSA Arena, with organizers expecting thousands to check out the tournament.
Six teams from across the province have earned spots in the championship through competitions in their zones. Approximately 120 players, aged 11 and 12 years old, and their families will attend the prestigious event, including the Abbotsford Hawks A1 team.
The Hawks clinched their spot with a 2-0 win over Burnaby Winter Club on Saturday. It’s the first time an Abbotsford Peewee A1 team has won the zone playoffs since 1996.
Abbotsford opens on Sunday against Kamloops at 10:30 a.m.
