It would be very difficult to find a day and a place that would be as appealing for an outdoor activity for youngsters as June 17, but the Under 12 matches at Chandler Park were about as perfect as one could hope for.
The fields may have been less than ideal but the weather and the venue could hardly have been a better way to spend some outdoor exercise time for the kids.
Six local teams, imaginatively named Smithers One through Six, two squads from Hazelton and a roster from Houston got to run up and down the truncated fields and score a lot of goals in the process.
In the end, Hazelton One bested Smithers Three 6-2 in the final game to claim top honours.
