The 2005 Kelowna Heat repeated as Round Table Challenge Hockey Championship winners Sunday by stopping the Okanagan Junior Bombers 6-4 in West Kelowna.

Erik Pastro of Vernon and Austin Seibel of Coldstream were integral pieces in the win.

The Heat ambushed the Okanagan Lakers 8-0 and then tied the Kootenay Avalanche 4-4 with Pastro recording the tying goal with 11 seconds left.

In their final round-robin game, the Heat bounced the Calgary Havoc 5-2 to finish first in their pool and set up a semifinal date with the host West Kelowna Knights which the Heat won 7-2.

For the weekend, Pastro contributed 10 goals and two assists and Seibel finished with a 2-0 record with one shutout, a .943 save percentage and a 1.00 GAA. Next for the Heat is the Alberta Champions Cup, April 24-26 in Calgary.

The Stingers bowed 9-2 to the Red Deer Rustlers in Sunday’s final of the 2002 Spring Tournament in Osoyoos.

Coached by former Boston Bruin Sandy Moger of Vernon, the Stingers’ MVP in the final was Moger’s son, Cameron.

The Stingers struck down the B.C. Lightning 10-3 in the semifinals with Moger supplying five assisst and Nicholas Teale of Vernon earning MVP.

Jack Finley, son of former NHLer and Vernon minor hockey product Jeff Finley, rang up four snipes and took MVP as the Stingers opened by storming the Kootenay Avalanche 9-3.

The Stingers then lost 6-3 to Red Deer with Wyatt Marlow of Cranbrook scoring twice for MVP.

The Stingers rebounded with a 11-3 win over the Northern Selects. Colby Fiest of Salmon Arm pulled the hat trick and received game MVP.

Meanwhile, four members of the Vernon Source For Sports Bantam Tier 1 Vipers made the grade at the Hockey B.C. Under 15 trials in Nelson.

Goalie Brendan Forman, d-men Lee Christensen and Tyler Sedlacek and forward Eric Noren move on to the B.C. Cup, May 7-10 in Richmond.

Sedlacek was also selected to play in the U16 Cup, April 23-26, in Salmon Arm,

F Coleton Bilodeau and D Powell Connor, Vernon products who play academy hockey in Kelowna, were also chosen to play in the U16 Cup.
