The UBC Okanagan men picked up a point in two road games in Canada West soccer action.

On Saturday in Edmonton, the Heat fell 3-1 to the No. 2-ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Rookie striker Ajeej Sarkaria scored all three goals for the Bears, while Nikhil Reddy scored UBCO’s lone marker in the 80th minute.

On Sunday, the Heat (3-3-2) played to scoreless draw with Edmonton’s MacEwan Griffins.

UBCO keeper Mitch McCaw made five saves for his third clean sheet of the season.

The best chance of the afternoon for the Heat came in the 68th minute when freshman defender Spencer Young blasted a shot on goal after a long spring up the left wing, but Griffins keeper Dylon Powley made the save.

The Heat returns to action Saturday when they travel to Prince George to play the UNBC Timberwolves.

Heat women

The Heat women came up empty handed in two home games on the weekend.

On Saturday at Nonis Field, UBCO fell 2-0 to the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Late in the match, Courtney Hemmerling had a number of chances, making Cascades keeper Kayla Klim stop three good shots, in the 84th, 90th and 93rd minutes.

On Sunday, the undefeated Trinity West Spartans blanked the Heat 3-0.

All three goals came in the first half. Andrea Stinson was named UBCO’s player of the game.

The Heat (2-4-0) returns to action Friday in Vancouver against the UBC Thunderbirds.
