Hockey 3-on-3 event takes shot on bullying

100 Mile & District Minor Hockey Association is hosting a Hockey Against Bullying 3-on-3 hockey event

100 Mile & District Minor Hockey Association is hosting a Hockey Against Bullying 3-on-3 hockey event in support of Anti-Bullying Day on Feb. 27.

The mini tournament takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre and the public is invited to attend and dress in pink to show support.

Association president Darrell Blades says all members of the club, from Initiation to Midget divisions, will have a chance to play.

Ice will be divided into three sections and Blades says it will compare to a pond hockey format, with three games going simultaneously.

He says a small amount of bullying exists within the association and members are doing everything they can to eliminate it.

“We’ve had issues in the past where kids pick on kids for not being as good. We recognize it’s there and want to bring it out in the forefront.”

Admission will not be charged for the event, but the club will be selling pink jerseys and T-shirts in the lobby. Money raised will be donated to an anti-bullying organization.
