Every swing helps.
The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards announced its Million Dollar Hole-In-One contest, to be held in September at Beban Park Golf Course.
The contest is a fundraiser for the annual awards, which then distribute the proceeds through an athlete assistance program.
Volker Grady, general manager of German Auto Import Network Nanaimo, event sponsor, said the awards are meant to encourage athletes to be the best in their field.
“We recognize their blood, their sweat, their tears and their dedication and discipline,” said Grady. “So we as a community need to step up to encourage them, to support them with all our means to get them to succeed.”
To enter the contest, duffers need to buy a ticket for $5 that will allow them to hit five balls in the first round of the contest. Anyone who lands a ball on the green in the first round will advance to the second round to try for a hole-in-one and the grand prize.
The contest will take place Sept. 11-14.
Tickets are available at Nanaimo Subaru, Golf West, Beban Park Golf Course, the Mid-Island Co-op on Hammond Bay Road, or at Nanaimo Museum. Call 250-716-6110 or 250-756-0108 for more information.
