One of the reasons I think my wife Jackie plays so well competitively in golf is her ongoing interest watching and enjoying the Olympic games.
I always get the impression those games support her competitive juices to a high degree. As a person who has moved to Port Alberni, I am so pleased when watching the CTV television segment during the Olympics called “The Difference Makers”, hosted by Port Alberni’s very own, Rick Hansen.
I also have been looking for a reason why no one has been successful convincing our city’s leaders to name a street, landmark, or even a city entrance sign, much like the one in Brantford, Ontario named after Wayne Gretzky, for Hansen? After all, it isn’t everyday a community, like ours, gives birth to clearly such a globally motivating, highly captivating and compelling mentor as “the man in motion”.
It was unknown whether he was motivated or compelled, but Phil Anker became yet the fourth newcomer of the year to join the low gross of the Men’s Night winners circle.
Anker, sporting a look, slightly reminiscent of movie star Russell Crowe, fired a two over par 32 to not only take the Canadian Tire low gross of the evening, but shoot his personal best. Nice round Phil.
Ankjer’s low score was good for a one shot victory over Ron Lange. It was also Warren Longeuay’s night shooting a gross 36 for a net 24, to take the Tim Horton’s low net of the evening, two more than Long John Sawyer. Joining Anker and Lange also for k.p. victories were First Glass’s Rob Longeuay, Big “O” Tires Denis Debolt with two, and Bryce Mecredi. Debolt has caught Ed Byrne for the Remax Player of the Year honors while Lange and Barry Ensor still lead the Howard Johnson Ringerboard competition.
It has now been 661 days since anyone has accepted the $100 challenge to tie or beat the course record of 27.
Ty Watson House contributions are over $1,500 Way to go guys. And the deuce pots were not won leaving No. 3 at $135 and No. 8 at $195 for next week.
