The Abbotsford Whalers’ collective performance at the Fraser Valley regional championships was impressive in terms of both quantity and quality.
The local swim club hosted the meet at Centennial Pool on the weekend, and finished with the most overall points at 6,007. That’s hardly shocking, since they had the most swimmers entered – Abbotsford had 121 athletes in attendance, while among other clubs, only the Haney Neptunes (76 swimmers) sent more than 32.
But the Whalers also boasted the most points per swimmer at 49.6, edging Haney (49.1) and Langley (44.6) in that department as well. All told, 11 Abbotsford swimmers finished first overall in their respective divisions.
Whalers’ aggregate champs included Brittney Paget (Div. 1 girls), Amy Connorton (Div. 2 girls), Lauren Kennedy (Div. 3 girls), Dylan Stoltz (Div. 3 boys), Laura Berard (Div. 4 girls), Brenden Saether (Div. 4 boys), Eric Martel (Div. 5 boys), Madeline Fedora (Div. 6 girls), Karl Hallquist (O2 boys), Nadia Berard (Div. 7 girls) and Gavin Wiese (Div. 8 boys).
