We can’t do anything about the weather but we can sure talk about it

Hot enough for you?  We can’t do anything about the weather but we can sure talk about it.  I have heard that “mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun” and I guess that applies to golfers as well.  Forty-six  ladies braved the heat to play a round of golf and stayed for a lovely supper on the patio July 7.  Thanks to Val Williams, Debbie Rainer and Brenda Carl for providing dessert.

When it came time to hand out prizes some were picked up by the usual suspects and some went to newbies.  Marla Muldoon scored a 43 to pick up the Hub International low gross for Flight 1 while Deb Legaree scored a 47 (32.5) to win low net.  In Flight 2 Betty Baillie won the Stamer Logging prize for low gross and Doreen Landry golfed her best game ever (49) to win the low net.  Wanda Amos won low gross for Flight 3 with a score of 55.  Marla Muldoon and Betty Foote split the deuce pot which was sizable and Evelyn Lucas took home the birdie pot.  Marla Muldoon with 12 putts won the least putt prize from Interior Savings Credit Union while Val Aylward and Lynda Forsythe both each used 26 putts with the prize going to the one who chose closest to my number.  In the words I don’t remember who picked the right number.

Cash and gift certificates from our many wonderful sponsors were picked up by the following:  Fiona Clare (long putt – AG Foods), Teresa Hamilton (long drive – Armour Mountain Office Services), Chrissy Pullen (long drive – Barriere A&W), Susan Mitchell (long drive – Barriere Timber Mart), Karen Mitchell (long putt – Barriere Massage), Deb Legaree (KP – Bondar Forest Planning), Jeannie Webber (KP – Carl’s Market Garden), JoAnne Lyle (KP – Campbell & Co.), Kathy Cook (long drive – Estylo Hair Design), Marie Hakes (long drive – Knights Inn), Babes Shanko (KP – Ron Wallace Trucking), Karen Peterson (KP in two – Rainer Custom Cutting), Betty Baillie (long drive – Station House Restaurant) and Donna Salle (long putt – Val Bella Studio).  Carol Hindle picked up two prizes for a KP (EBL Ventures) and a long drive (Sam’s Pizza).  Dorothy Warman gave us all a laugh by winning the short drive (Country Store Antiques) and long putt (Crystlee’s Hair Design) on the same hole.

Speaking of newbies – we are always happy to see new ladies join us on a Tuesday afternoon/evening.  Our ladies night is a very social outing with loads of laughter and fun.  If you are new to Barriere, or new to the game, come out and give us a try.

Next week is our annual Christmas in July.  It is a four lady scramble which is a perfect opportunity for someone to try the game for the first time.  You can phone the club house and book a team, or if you want to be matched up let us know and we will do our best.

Now I am hoping things cool down a bit so that I can bake my pumpkin tarts to go with the turkey dinner on the 21st.  In the meantime I am just going to take it easy.  Hope you do too.
