A tiebreaker got them into the playoff round, where an extra time loss left the North Delta Huskies with silver medals at the B.C. Senior AAA boys high school soccer tournament.

The Huskies won two of three games in round robin play, advancing to the four-team championship playoff after tying the Princess Margaret Lions for first place, but having won the head-to-head match between the two teams.

After a 3-2 win over the Sentinel Spartans in a semifinal contest Thursday afternoon, they lost 3-2 in overtime to the Charles Best Blue Devils Friday morning at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.

North Delta lost their first game of the 16-team tournament 3-2 to the St. George’s Saints last Wednesday morning, then lost 5-2 to the Lions later in the day. A 2-0 shutout win over the Claremont Spartans clinched a place in the final four.

North Delta’s Ryan Dhillon won the tournament’s Soccer Boy award as the Most Valuable Player, and teammate Ishmail Nunez was voted to the Commisioner’s 11 all-star team.

Princess Margaret and the Enver Creek Cougars battled for seventh place Friday afternoon, with the Lions earning a 1-0 victory to leave Enver Creek in eighth place.

Both teams placed second in their group in round robin play.

Aside from the loss to North Delta, the Lions opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Claremont, and finished the round robin by edging St. George’s 2-1.

They then lost 3-1 to the Port Moody Blues Thursday afternoon.

Amar Hans of Princess Margaret was a member of the tournament’s Commisioner’s 11 all-star team.

Enver Creek also won a pair in the round robin, sandwiching a 5-1 loss to the McMath Wildcats with a 2-1 victory over the West Vancouver Highlanders and a 3-2 victory over the Salmon Arm Golds.

The Cougars began the playoff round with a 1-0 loss to the Oak Bay Bays. Marc Minicieli was the Enver Creek player named to the Commisioner’s 11.

n The first round of the 160-team Fraser Valley Senior AAA girls tournament was played Tuesday night, with seven Surrey teams in action, three of which were winners.

The Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers blanked the Tamanawis Wildcats 4-0 in one of two all-Surrey matches. The Panorama Ridge Thunder stopped the Fraser Heights Firehawks 1-0 in the other.

The Fleetwood Park Dragons needed penalty kicks to win on the road, defeating the Yale Lions 3-2 in Chilliwack.

The Queen Elizabeth Royals fell 2-1 in penalty kicks at home against the Chilliwack Chargers, while the Clayton Heights Night Riders were beaten 3-1 by the Sardis Falcons.

The top five teams in the double-knockout playoff will advance to the provincial championships June 2-4 in Kamloops.
