Keagan Ingram, a Grade 8 Student from Summerland Middle School, broke two records in Nanaimo in the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships.
Ingram has been running since Grade 6, but he has been running with the Okanagan Athletics Club for two months.
He competed in the Grade 8 Men 1,500 metre and the Grade 8 men 3,000 metre races, winning gold medals in both events and beating the former records.
He sprinted to the finish line in both race events.
“I’m really glad that I broke into a sprint on the last little bits of the races because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have broken the records,” he said.
In the 1,500 metre event, he finished with a time of 4:28.37 and in the 3,000 metre event, his time was 9:51.89.
“The runs didn’t feel much different than the others,” he said.
“I was well rested from the night before as well as having some new shoes and shorts so I felt lighter. I thought after the race that I was close to breaking the record and was really hoping I did.”
