Some of the world’s best show jumpers are converging on Langley next weekend for the FEI Nations Cup League Event, and folks are invited down to watch the action – free of charge.
On Friday, June 2, Thunderbird Show Park – the region’s premiere equestrian facility – is hosting this prestigious show jumping event.
It’s a rare opportunity to see what Tbird president Jane Tidball calls a one-time window into the world of a fascinating Olympic sport.
The Nations Cup event is a team event where countries choose four riders to represent them, she explained.
“Show jumping, otherwise known as ‘horse jumping,’ is typically an individual competition,” Tidball elaborated. “But the Nations Cup is a rare opportunity to see it as a team competition and cheer on Team Canada.”
There is only one qualifying event in each country and Canada’s is right here, in Langley, at Tbird (24550 72nd Ave., just off the Trans-Canada Highway), from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on June 2.
This event will feature teams from Canada, U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Ireland, and more. And those teams will all come together to ride for their country’s chance to compete at the international equestrian championship in Barcelona in October.
Admission to this event is free, and the public is invited to come out for the experience.
