International students get their first taste of ice hockey

Two German international students took part in their first-ever ice hockey game at the Island Savings Centre on Oct. 25.

Two German international students took part in their first-ever ice hockey game at the Island Savings Centre on Oct. 25 as Cowichan Secondary School played host to G.P. Vanier in a high school girls match.

Laura Springhetti skated for Cowichan, while Malin Dreuw took the ice for Vanier in a 12-0 win for the host Thunderbirds.

Cohen Keck earned the shutout while filling in for Cowichan’s usual goalie, Quinn Tompkins, and seven different players scored for the T-Birds.

This past Monday, the Thunderbirds travelled to Lake Cowichan, where they defeated the hometown Lakers 5-2.
