The Invictus Games flag came through Chilliwack Monday morning, taking a brief break as it begins a cross-country tour.
The relay started Aug. 16 at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.
The flag will cover 10,000 kilometres over the next month, appearing at 22 military bases, 15 legions and more than 50 communities.
Its last stop is Toronto, site of the 2017 Invictus Games which run Sept. 23-30.
According to invictusgames2017.com/national-flag-tour, the black and yellow flag is ‘a physical representation of the unconquerable spirit of competitors, and embodies the hope and spirit of the 550 competitors who will be participating in the 2017 Invictus Games.’
The Invictus Games were founded in 2014 by Prince Harry as an international multi-sport event for military personel who have been wounded in action. The list of adapative sports includes power-lifting, golf, swimming, basketball, rugby, tennis, volleyball, cycling, rowing, archery and athletics.
The inaugural Invictus Games were held in 2014 in London, drawing more than 400 competitors from 13 countries.
