The host Isfeld Ice senior girls basketball team punched its ticket to provincials by defeating Victoria’s Royal Bay 68-64 in Friday’s semi-final game at the AA senior girls Island basketball championships.

“The game was close the whole way through,” said Sherri Bohmer, who co-coaches with Ken Erikson. “In the fourth quarter, Isfeld was down 64-57 with less than a minute to play. Our point guard, Myah Erikson, cashed a clutch three to make it 64-60. On the inbound from Royal Bay, Myah stole the ball and cashed a second three to [make the score] 64-63. We then had two players (Harriette Cunningham and Olivia Sellentin) combine for five successful free throws to make the final score, 68-64. It was very exciting.”

Isfeld started the tourney with a 79-44 win over Pacific Christian of Victoria. In the final, the Ice lost 70-52 to St. Michaels University School, also of Victoria.

The provincial championships kick off Feb. 28 in Langley.
