Avery Snider, a Grade 8 student attending Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School, has been selected to the U14 Girls Basketball BC Provincial Team to represent B.C. in international tournaments in the U.S. and B.C.

She will be training with the team in Vancouver for the next two months. The selection process first began where Snider was a member of the Basketball BC North Island Regional Team which competed at the Provincial tournament in Langley at the end of May. There were 16 zones from all over B.C. competing at this tournament.

“A natural point guard with excellent skills in dribbling and shooting, Avery proved to the selection committee she could compete with the best from the rest of the province,” noted Isfeld coach Grant Ashlee.

“She caught the eye of the selection committee with very quick drives to the basket, excellent passing and tough defence with many notable steals during the tournament. (She is) a positive and natural leader demonstrated by encouraging teammates as well as running the offence, qualities needed to be a member of the Provincial team,” said Ashlee.

The selection to the B.C. team topped off a very successful year for Snider at Mark R. Isfeld this year. She won the award for the top Grade 8 Female Athlete of the Year while maintaining a 4.0 Grade Point Average, Ashlee added.
