Island Girls win B.C. senior crown

Comox Valley rink heading to national championship

The team of lead Kathy Branch of Comox and second Colleen Robson of Courtenay, along with third Penny Shantz of Nanoose and Qualicum skip Lynne Noble, won the B.C. Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Salmon Arm at the end of February.

The team moves on to the 2017 national Senior Women’s Curling Championship March 18 – 25 in Fredericton, N.B. Team Noble, a.k.a. Island Girls, qualified third in the round robin with a record of 5 – 2.

The team beat Chilliwack’s Deputan rink in the three/four game, which allowed them to move to the semifinal. That game was played against the Cowan team from Langley, which was one of the two teams that had previously beat Noble. This time around, though, the Noble team was successful.

The final brought the Island Girls up against Salmon Arm’s hometown favourite and previously undefeated Sandra Jenkins, who also had beat Noble in the round robin.

The Noble team scored three in the sixth to take the lead 6 – 5, the seventh was blanked and the local team stole in the eighth for the victory.

The team would like to thank everyone for the many good wishes they have received.
