Head to Oak Bay High this weekend to catch the Vancouver Island Senior Boys Volleyball AAA volleyball championship, Nov. 20 at 21 (see story page 1).
Turning to university basketball, University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team hosts the CIS No. 7-ranked Calgary Dinos tonight (Friday, Nov. 20) and Saturday, Nov. 21 at the CARSA Performance Gym. After a clean sweep of the CIS No. 9-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies this past weekend, the Vikes are the Canada West Pioneer Division’s top team to start the year with a 4-0 conference record. The Dinos are close behind, boasting a 3-1 record, after a split series with the Manitoba Bisons last weekend.
The Vikes women also face the Dinos, with games at 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
On the rugby pitch, the Vikes look to make it a perfect 9-0 in Barnard Cup action this season when they face Westshore RFC on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Wallace Field. While the unbeaten Vikes stand at 8-0, Westshore is winless at 0-7. Kick-off is at 2:30 p.m.
In Lower Island Women’s premier soccer, the Castaways Highlanders face Lakehill at Breafoot Sunday, Nov. 22 for a noon kick-off.
In Division 1 play, the Castaways FC welcomes Prospect Lake to Carnarvon Sunday (Nov. 22) at noon. Also Sunday, Bays United hosts Saanich Fusion FC at UVic Field No. 3 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
While the Camosun Chargers men’s and women’s volleyball teams are both on the road this weekend, the Chargers men’s and women’s basketball teams have two home games this week. They first take on the Quest University Kermodes with the women’s game at 6 p.m. and the men’s game at 8 p.m. at PISE on Friday, Nov. 20. Come Saturday, Nov. 21, the Chargers take on the Langara College Falcons with the women taking to the court at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m. Both games are at PISE.
Vancouver Island women’s field hockey has a busy this week starting Saturday, Nov. 21 at the UVic pitch, when the Blue Jays take on Lynx 2 at 9:30 a.m., the Ravens face the Demons at 9:30 a.m., the Stellers play the Pirates at 11 a.m., the Renegades play the Devils at 12:30 p.m., the Lynx 1 play the Patriots at 2 p.m., and the Kestrels play the Lynx 3 at 3:30 p.m. Finally, on Wednesday, Nov. 25 the Devils play the Ravens at 6:30 p.m.
In Vancouver Island men’s field hockey play Sunday, Nov. 22, also on the UVic pitch, Rebels 2 plays the Rebels 1 at 9 a.m., the Hawks take on the Mutineers at 10:30 a.m., and the Tigers face the Marauders at 2 p.m.
In Vancouver Island Junior Hockey action, the Victoria Cougars start an action-packed week of games on Friday, Nov. 20 when they take on Peninsula on the road, with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. at Panorama arena. On Sunday, Nov. 22 the Cougars are back at home playing against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at 3:30 p.m. at Archie Browning. Then, finishing the week at home, the Cougars host the Nanaimo Buccaneers at 7 p.m. at Archie Browning.
Also coming up is the Cougars’ annual fundraising Pub Night Saturday, Nov. 21. The action begins at 7 p.m. in the Crow’s Nest of the Archie Browning Sports Centre and guests must be age 19 or older.
