Jackson finds podium at Tour de White Rock

Abbotsford’s Alison Jackson finished the BC Superweek strong with a podium finish in the two-race Tour de White Rock.

Abbotsford’s Alison Jackson finished the BC Superweek strong with a podium finish in the two-race Tour de White Rock over the weekend where temperatures hovered near the 30-degree mark.

In the Choices Markets Criterium race last Friday, Jackson, a member of U.S.-based Twenty16 Professional Cycling team, finished in second, her highest position among all her races in the Superweek seroes, with a time of 39:25.3. That was just a couple seconds shy of first place finisher Shelley Olds, who won the White Rock Omnium, which is the cumulative score between both White Rock contests.

Jackson managed a sixth-place finish in the Peach Arch News Road Race in the second and final race of the White Rock tour. This helped the Abbotsford product to a third-place overall finish in the Omnium.

While Jackson failed to reach similar heights across the rest of the BC Superweek series, she did manage a couple of top 10 finishes along with a couple of placements within the top 15.

In the opening tour, the Tour de Delta, Jackson placed 13th in the Women’s UCI Race held Sunday, July 12. She did not compete in the Friday or Saturday criteriums.

In the UBC Grand Prix on July 14, Jackson placed eighth with a time just over 59 minutes; the top place finisher was clocked in at 0:59:12.40.

Jackson then finished seventh in the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix, July 15.

Finally, in the Giro di Burnaby the following day, Jackson managed a 12th place finish, and, much the same as the UBC Grand Prix, finished within the top heat of racers with a time around the 59-minute mark, close to the first-place rider who finished with a time of 0:59:17.80.

The BC Superweek featured eight races over 10 days, and is one of the most prestigious pro-cycling events in North America with a total prize purse of more than $120,000.
