The Vernon Ice Rockets grounded the Kelowna Rockettes 7-5 in a Sunday morning Novice ringette showdown.

Vernon opened the scoring with a early goal from Makenna Jackson, fed from Aimee Skinner.Jackson went on to add two more goals, while Hillary Quiring pocketed a pair and Kristen Francks and Aimee Skinner each provided singles.

Kennedy Jackson made two great drop passes, assisting on both of Quiring’s goals. Jordan Tung and Caryss Hill each picked up assists.

Alecia Hughes, Victoria Schultz and Chloe Scabar played solid defence in support of netminder Katrina Winstanley.

Kristin Ho supplied five snipes as the Advertsising Works Vernon Victory grounded the West Kelowna Rebels 17-3 Saturday in Petite (Under 12) action.

Alyssa Johnson added four goals, while Grace Cornell had three, Hannah McMorran a deuce and singles from Tara Charlton – her first of the season – Brynn Korol and Jaden Scott.

In Petite action Saturday, the Vernon DCT Chambers Roar fell 9-5 to the Kelowna Junior Chiefs.

The Roar offence came from Ashly Shwaluk (4) and Rhys Taylor-Hawes (1+1).

The Roar received great hustle from Emma Lochhead, Sierra Lochhead and call-up Sierra Fernley.

Georgia Lannon, Amy Demetrick and call-up Shaila Austin all played solid defence in support of a stellar Katrina Winstanley, making her Petite debut.

The Vernon Tween Rush outlasted Salmon Arm Junior B’s 6-5 behind two goals from Courtney Bacon.  Hailey Quiring, Abby Williamson, Alyssa Racine and Winter Vanderveen provided singles in support of Caenen Wisse.

Madison Fox, Aly Carter, Kalen Webster and Emily Williams also contributed in the win.

Vernon Novice Ice Dragons had a late goal by Rhys Taylor-Hawes waived off in a 6-5 loss to host Kelowna.

Vernon outshot Kelowna with 32 scoring chances but met a red-hot goalie.

Vernon’s attack was led by Brianna Vissor (1+1), Astrid Beaty, Brooklyn Lewis and Jaya Chauhan.

Other goals and assists came from the Dragons’ defensive line of Shaila Austin, Sierra Lochead and Amelia Johnson.
