Janday leads Grizzlies to win at GWG Showcase opener

The basketball Grizzlies pulled away in the second half for a one-sided win over the Sahali Sabres.

Four GW Graham Grizzlies hit double digits in points Thursday afternoon as their team outlasted the Sahali (Kamloops) Sabres.

The teams tipped off at the Grizzlies Showcase Tournament, with the hosts winning 76-58.

GWG big man Jeevon Janday led the scoring parade with 19 points, shooting seven of eight from the field and four of four from the free-throw line.

Ty Hall was close behind with 14 points. Grayson Weston had 11 and Jude Hall had 10.

Ethan Bartha was a terror on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds, seven defensive and three offensive. Janday added nine rebounds.

The tournament continues today through Saturday night in the GWG gym.

The gold-medal game will go Saturday at 7 p.m., preceded by the bronze medal match at 5:15 p.m.

In addition to GWG and Sahali, the field includes MEI (Abbotsford), St. Patrick’s Regional School (Vancouver), Robert Bateman (Abbotsf0rd), Britannia (Vancouver), Elphinstone (Gibsons), Delview (Delta), Westsyde (Kamloops), St. Thomas Moore Collegiate (Burnaby), Credo Christian (Langley), Rick Hansen (Abbotsford), Clarence Fulton (Vernon), Abbotsford Christian and King George (Vancouver).
