B.C. Premier Baseball League team tops Vancouver Cannons at Mackie Park

Jays win at home

The North Delta Blue Jays moved into a tie for sixth place in the B.C. Premier Baseball League Tuesday night, while the Whalley Chiefs were unable to end a losing streak that has now reached eight games.

Both teams were playing at home Tuesday, and the Jays topped the Vancouver Cannons 9-2 while the Chiefs were blanked 10-0 by the Langley Blaze at Whalley Stadium.

North Delta improved to 4-3 (won-loss), while the Chiefs fell to 1-9.

The Jays scored four times in the bottom of the first inning to take a big lead, putting the game well out of reach with four more runs in the fourth frame.

Clint Taylor hit a two-run single to open the scoring in the first inning, then added a third North Delta run on a base hit by Brad Antchak.

A field error with the bases-loaded allowed three Blue Jays to score in the fourth inning.

Bryan O’Hara and Taylor each had two hits to lead North Delta. O’Hara drove in three runs, while Taylor had a pair of RBIs (runs batted in).

Luke Manuel got the win, striking out eight Vancouver batters without allowing a walk. The Cannons managed their two runs on six hits.

At Whalley Stadium, the Blaze pounded Chiefs pitchers for 12 hits, and were up by 10 runs after just three innings of play. A double by Garrett Hasner was the only hit for the home team.

Both the Blue Jays and the Chiefs are at home again tonight (Thursday). The 1-7 White Rock Tritons are the visitors at Mackie Park in North Delta, while the 7-4 Coquitlam Reds face the Chiefs at Whalley Stadium.
