Jeff Richard qualifies for B.C. men’s curling championship

Kelowna curler, the 2010 provincial champ, will be in 16-rink field Feb. 5 to 9 in Vancover

Kelowna’s Jeff Richard is headed back to the B.C. men’s curling championship.

Richard, who is joined this year by third Tom Shypitka (Cranbrook), second Jay Wakefield (Vancouver) and lead David Harper (Kelowna), earned a berth at provincials at the Okanagan men’s regional playdowns last weekend in Kamloops.

Richard, the 2010 B.C. men’s champ, defeated Scott Decap 8-3 in Saturday’s A event qualifier.

Richard competed last year at provincials as a member of the Brent Pierce rink.

Also competing in the 16-rink field at the B.C. championship will be the Kelowna/Vernon rink featuring John Morris, Jim Cotter, Ty Griffith and Rick Sawatsky.

Cutter won the B.C. title in 2011 and 2012.

The provincials are set for Feb. 5 to 9 at the Vancouver Curling Club.
