Jets qualify for provincials

The Vernon ANAF Jets have qualified for the B.C. Under 16C Girls Fastball Championships, July 4-6, in Port Alberni.

The Vernon ANAF Jets have qualified for the B.C. Under 16C Girls Fastball Championships, July 4-6, in Port Alberni.

The Jets, coached by Tim Jones, took second place after losing 7-3 to the Kelowna Howlers in the District playdown final at High Noon Park in Kelowna last weekend.

Vernon won five straight games to reach the final, ripping the Kelowna Royals 16-7, stuffing the Sicamous Stingers 11-3, grounding the Howlers 14-2, jolting the Summerland Jets 14-7 and outlasting the Kelowna Royals 13-11.

Sarah Jones and Cameron Thiessen handled the Jets’ pitching, while Samantha Head and Morgan Jones shared catching duties.

The final was tied 3-3 before going to extra innings. The Howlers also advance to provincials.

Laureen Hornell, Morgan Jones, Miranda Blatny, Courtnie Fuster, Sarah Jones, Landry Bickel and Yetko Robins round out the Vernon roster.

Meanwhile, the Enderby Storm Midgets and Pee Wees won District titles and are in the provincials, July 4-6, in Richmond.
