A big game in junior football Saturday (Oct. 15) sees the first-place Westshore Rebels host the #4 Vancouver Island Raiders in a big B.C. Football Conference playoff semifinal at Westhills Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m. under the lights.
Junior A hockey returns to the West Shore when the Victoria Grizzlies host the Cowichan Valley Capitals at The Q Centre at 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14). In home-and-home play, the Grizzlies take on the Capitals on Saturday in Duncan with a 7 p.m. puck drop. The Grizzlies return home for a pair Friday, Oct. 21, when they host the Langley Rivermen at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, both at 7 p.m.
In Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action, the Westshore Wolves Jr. B team starts on the road Friday when they take on the Peninsula Panthers at Panorama Rec Centre at 7:30 p.m. The Wolves return home next Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they host the Kerry Park Islanders at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. They’ll finish their week up Island on Thursday when they take on the Nanaimo Buccaneers at 7:15 p.m.
In Midget Tier 1 hockey, the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies host Campbell River on Saturday (Oct. 15) for a 3 p.m. exhibition game at The Q Centre.
In Island premier rugby play Saturday at Westshore Parks and Recreation, Westshore RFC welcomes the University of Victoria Vikes for a 2:45 p.m. start, preceded at 1 p.m. by the Div. 1 Valhallians against the UVic Norsemen. In B.C. premier women’s play Saturday, Westshore hosts Capilano, also at 1 p.m. at Juan de Fuca.
High school sports brings senior girls volleyball action to the West Shore Tuesday, Oct. 18. With games starting at 6 p.m., Belmont plays host to Spectrum and Stelly’s in the last match-up before the city finals Oct. 25. In pool B, Royal Bay hosts a full slate of games, with the hosts taking on St. Margaret’s and Esquimalt.
Senior boys volleyball brings Royal Bay to Oak Bay High on Wednesday, Oct. 19, with games against the hosts, SMUS and Mt. Doug, starting at 6 p.m. In high school soccer next Tuesday, Royal Bay’s senior boys head to Reynolds.
On the gridiron Friday (Oct. 14), the Belmont Bulldogs’ varsity squad welcomes Carson Graham to Goudy Turf for a 3:15 p.m. kick-off. Looking ahead, the junior varsity Bulldogs take the field next Friday, Oct. 21 when they host Notre Dame at 1:30 p.m., followed by the schools’ varsity teams at 3:15 p.m. Come cheer on your hometown boys!
West Shore runners head to Beaver Lake next Thursday, Oct. 20 for the high school cross country competition. Events start at 3:45 p.m. with the final event hitting the start line at 4:05 p.m.
