Playoffs, end of season draws near for many West Shore teams

Regular season play is drawing to a close for two local lacrosse teams.

The junior Shamrocks play their final regular season home game Saturday, July 2, hosting the Burnaby Lakers at The Q Centre at 5 p.m. The Junior ‘Rocks hit the road Sunday, July 3 to take on the Delta Islanders.

The Victoria intermediate Shamrocks take on Burnaby in their final regular season game next Saturday, July 9 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at The Q Centre.

In WLA senior lacrosse action, the Victoria Shamrocks follow a Wednesday away game in Langley by hosting the Coquitlam Adanacs on Friday, July 8. Game time is 7:45 p.m. at The Q Centre.

After competing in Nanaimo in the Island vs. Mainland all-star game, the Junior B Westshore Bears lacrosse team faces Saanich at Archie Browning Rec Centre at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3. The Bears return hosting duties Thursday, July 7, welcoming Saanich to The Q Centre for an 8 p.m. start.

For more lacrosse, the Victoria Wolves Senior B team returns from two games on the road to host the Valley Rebels at 5:30 p.m. at The Q Centre next Sunday, July 10.

In Westshore cricket, the Metchosin pitch plays host to the Metchosin versus Beagle match this Monday, July 4 at 6 p.m.

Tonight (July 1) and Saturday brings the Used.ca Mid-Season Championship Weekend to Western Speedway. Race fans will enjoy the AMCA Dwarf Car Invitational, Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, Mini Stocks, Island Powder Coating Modifieds (Saturday Night only) and Marlin Motors Hornets.

Popular country band Montgomery County will perform after Saturday night’s races. For tickets and more information visit westernspeedway.net.

Come Wednesday, July 6, check out exciting wheel-to-wheel action on the oval with the Marlin Motors Hornet Series.

The regional high-performance baseball teams are also closing in on playoffs with the regular season games ending July 17.

Our Premier Victoria Mariners head over the Malahat to take on the Parksville in a Canada Day doubleheader. The Ms return home, Saturday, July 2 to host the Nanaimo Pirates in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Layritz field.

Come Tuesday, July 12, the Mariners face cross-town rivals , the Victoria Eagles, in a single game at Lambrick Park at 6 p.m.

The Premier Victoria Eagles start their week at home, hosting the Langley Blaze  Tuesday, July 5. The doubleheader starts at 12 and 2:30 p.m. at the Eagles’ home field of Lambrick Park.

The Bantam AAA Red Eagles have an action-packed week, opening Saturday, July 2 at Carnarvon Park. The Eagles play two games against the Mariners Bantam Prep team, with 12 and 3 p.m. starts. On Tuesday, July 5 the Red Eagles play an exhibition game at Carnarvon Field at 6 p.m.

In West Coast League play, the red-hot Victoria HarbourCats continue their series against the Kelowna Falcons with a doubleheader today (July 1) at Royal Athletic Park. Games go at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, July 2 features a 6:35 p.m. start.
