The beautiful game of soccer returns to the West Shore Saturday, Sept. 9. While the men’s Div. 1 Westcastle United play in Cowichan this week, local eyes turn to the Div. 2 Juan de Fuca team, playing their home opener at 6 p.m. when they take on the Fred Milne FC at Westhills Stadium.
Saturday, Sept. 9 also marks the start of the West Shore rugby season when the men’s premier team takes on the University of Victoria squad at UVic at 1 p.m.
Join the Westshore Rebels the next two weekends for exciting home games at Westhills Stadium. This Saturday, Sept. 9, the Rebels host the Kamloops Broncos at 3 p.m. then on Saturday, Sept. 16 the Rebels host the Vancouver Island Raiders at 7 p.m.
High school football also debuts this week with pre-season exhibition play, however Belmont Secondary begins the season with a bye. Next Friday, Sept. 15, the local squads head over the Malahat to take on Ballenas. The junior varsity players hit the field at 4 p.m. with varsity play at 7:30 p.m.
The Westshore Wolves continue play at home Saturday, Sept. 9 when they take on the Oceanside Generals at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. Next up Wednesday, Sept. 13, the Wolves host the Nanaimo Buccaneers at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. Catch the Wolves while you can this week as their next home game takes place a week later on Sept. 20.
From the ice to the floor, the season gets underway for West Shore ball hockey players participating in Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey’s inaugural fall season.
Drop-in game sessions run every Sunday from this Sunday (Sept. 10) through January at Eagle Ridge Arena. Open to those born from 2011 to 1999, with different times for each age group, registration is $95 for the season – find registration information at vmbh.ca.
