It’s a busy week in local hockey.
Saanich Midget Tier 1, which includes players from Oak Bay and Victoria, along with co-hosts Juan de Fuca and Peninsula minor hockey welcome some of the best teams in B.C. for the annual Greater Victoria Midget Hockey Classic, Nov. 10 to 13.
With games played around the region, Saanich opens play Pearkes Rec Centre Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7:15 p.m., facing the Vancouver Thunderbirds. Friday takes the local team to Panorama arena for an 8:30 a.m. match against the Hollyburn Huskies before they face the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins Saturday at 8:10 a.m. at Victoria Racquet Club and the Kelowna Rockets at 12:40 p.m. at Panorama.
Oak Bay Rec Centre hosts a handful of games, including a 3:15 p.m. Friday tilt between the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies and Burnaby Winter Club and a consolation final at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
The Victoria Cougars open a busy week with their annual Pub Night and Silent Auction, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, Nov. 4, in the Crow’s Nest of the Archie Browning arena.
The Cougars are on the road Saturday, taking on the Kerry Park Islanders at 7:30 p.m. before returning home Sunday, Nov. 6 to host the Westshore Wolves at 3:30 p.m. at Archie Browning Arena.
The Cougs return to Kerry Park Tuesday, Nov. 8 to play the Islanders at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to host the Saanich Braves on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Archie Browning Arena.
The Cougars have one more to finish off the week, when they hit the road to Panorama arena Friday, Nov. 11 to play the Peninsula Panthers at 7:30 p.m.
In Victoria Royals hockey, the boys in blue host the Lethbridge Hurricanes at 7:05 at Save-on-Foods Memorial Arena Friday, Nov. 4, followed by a Friday, Nov. 11 tilt against the Tri-City Americans, also at 7:05 p.m. at Save-on-Foods centre.
In university men’s and women’s basketball, the University of Victoria Vikes return from Regina to host two games against the University of Calgary Dinos. Game time is 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the CARSA performance gym. The women’s team hits the court against the Dinos at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 and 5 p.m. Nov. 12.
Turning to premier men’s rugby, the UVic Vikes cross town to take on James Bay AA at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 while the Castaway Wanderers host Westshore at UVic.
On the women’s premier side, the Castaway Wanderers play at Juan de Fuca field Saturday, Nov. 5 when they take on Westshore at 11:30 a.m.
Men’s Div. 1 rugby has UVic visiting James Bay AA 2 Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. and Westshore 2 hosting the Castaway Wanderers 2 at 1 p.m. at Juan de Fuca.
In Oak Bay men’s soccer, Bays United FC hosts Cowichan FC at the Oak Bay High pitch at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4.
Women’s soccer this week pits the premier Castaways Highlanders against Saanich Fusion FC at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at Tyndall Field. In Div. 1 soccer, the Castaways FC hosts the Bays United FC at PISE at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
