The Victoria Shamrocks seniors begin their quest to repeat as Mann Cup champions next Friday, May 20 with their Western Lacrosse Association opener. The Shamrocks welcome the Nanaimo Timbermen to The Q Centre for a 7:45 p.m. start.
The intermediate ‘A’ Shamrocks have two games this weekend, hosting Delta at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at The Q Centre before hitting the road to play in Port Coquitlam on Sunday.
The junior ‘A’ Shamrocks also play twice this weekend, hosting the New West Salmonbellies at 5 p.m. Saturday (May 14) at The Q Centre before taking on the Adanacs in Coquitlam on Sunday.
In West Shore racing action, Western Speedway hosts Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame Night tomorrow, featuring the stock cars, mini-stocks, dwarf cars, Old Time Racing Association and modifieds. The grandstands open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30, fan fest at 6, time permitting, and racing getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
Local cricket fans will want to head into town on Sunday (May 15) when the Metchosin Cricket team plays Albion at Beacon Hill Park. Play starts at 12 p.m.
Baseball fans can head to the diamond this weekend when the Premier Victoria Mariners host four games at home. Tomorrow and Sunday the Mariners welcome the Okanagan Athletics with doubleheaders both days at Layritz Park. Games start at 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Junior Premier Mariners hold the field at Oak Bay’s Henderson Park with doubleheaders this Saturday and Sunday against the Okanagan Athletics. Games start at 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
While the Mariners are at home, cross-town B.C. Premier Baseball League rivals the Premier Victoria Eagles head to Vancouver to face the White Rock Tritons in a doubleheader on Saturday, before taking on the North Delta Blue Jays on Sunday.
The Junior Premier Eagles host the Whalley Chiefs this Saturday in a doubleheader at Lambrick Park. Game 1 opens at 12 p.m. and Game 2 at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Eagles are on the mainland to take on the White Rock Tritons.
High school cycling competition brings BMX racing to Juan de Fuca Rec Centre on Thursday, May 19.
Also coming up this month is the B.C. High School Championships for cross country and endurance mountain biking, which will take athletes over to Powell River on Saturday, May 23.
