Westshore rugby fans with the Canada Women’s Sevens on their calendar won’t want to wait until event day to purchase tickets – last year the event sold out.
The sevens is coming up April 16 and 17 at Westhills Stadium, and will be the final opportunity to see Canada’s women’s team face the best rugby nations in the world on home soil before their Olympic campaign in August. Coming up in Westshore Tier 1 women’s rugby is a playoff game Saturday, April 2 in Surrey, where they face Bayside at 11:30 a.m. Returning home, the local squad next hits the pitch Saturday, April 9, hosting the Castaway Wanderers at the Westshore Velodrome at 11:30 a.m.
The Westshore Div. 1 men’s team is up in Cowichan against the Cowichan Piggies at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2 – head over the Malahat to cheer on your local crew. The men’s Div. 3 side would also appreciate a few home-side fans when they travel to Oak Bay to take on the Castaway Wanderers at Windsor Park Sunday, April 3. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
With spring break a distant memory, high school spring sports are ramping up.
In senior boys’ rugby, Belmont travels to Glenlyon Norfolk School Thursday, April 7 for a 3:45 p.m. kick-off, while Royal Bay heads to Edward Milne Community School in Sooke, also for 3:45 p.m.
In junior boys’ rugby, Belmont hosts Oak Bay at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
The high school badminton season opens this Tuesday, April 5 when Belmont hosts Vic High at 3:45 p.m. On Thursday, April 7 Belmont returns to the court to host Spectrum at 3:45 p.m.
High school cycling also makes its first appearance of the season this week. On Wednesday, April 8, the AFD BikeJam comes to the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre. Sign-in for the participation event is at 9:30 a.m.
