Cyclists are invited to learn more about the Victoria Wheelers Cycling Development Program at a Tuesday meeting at Oak Bay Bikes. The program offers accepted applicants the use of a bike for the season, riding kit (shorts, jerseys, cool weather gear), race travel support and the chance to apply for coaching funding. High school basketball returns to Oak Bay High Tuesday, Jan. 31 when the senior boys host Belmont for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. St. Michaels University School also hosts Claremont at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before hitting the road to Lambrick Park Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and to Parkland Friday, Feb. 3, with Friday’s game time still to be announced.
With league play finished for the Oak Bay High senior girls, catch exhibition action this Saturday at 11 a.m. when the girls host Abbotsford’s MEI secondary.
On the soccer pitch, Saturday, Jan. 28 has the Castaways Highlanders FC women taking on Victoria Athletics in Premier women’s play kicking off at 6 p.m. at PISE. In Div. 1 action, the Castaways FC plays Prospect Lake Saturday, Jan 28 at 5 p.m. at Layritz while on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 4:30 p.m., Bays United FC hosts Vic West FCat the Oak Bay High turf.
On the men’s side, the Div. 1 Bays United men take to the Oak Bay High turf Friday, Jan. 27 to face Gorge FC at 8 p.m.
Oak Bay baseball steps up to the plate this week with registration open for three different leagues. Carnarvon’s spring season is open for both baseball and softball. Registration closes Feb. 28 but register before Feb. 18 and save $50. Visit www.carnarvonballclub.com for information.

Bear Mountain Resort announced its new Bear Mountain Bike Festival, March 4 and 5, with exciting cycling events for enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. The festival will include elite-level XC and Enduro racing, challenge events for enthusiasts and kids’ activities.
