Johnson in middle of PGA pack

Myles Johnson found himself in a 10-way tie for 27th spot at the Titleist/Footjoy PGA of British Columbia championshp.

Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club pro Myles Johnson found himself in a 10-way tie for 27th spot in a field of 44 after the opening round Monday of the 2014 Titleist/Footjoy PGA of British Columbia championshp.

The event is being played at Vancouver’s Point Grey Golf Club.

Johnson opened with 4-over par 76, which left him in the mammoth logjam eight shots back of first-round leader Kevin Maxwell of Victoria’s Olympic View Golf Club.

Maxwell was the only golfer to break 70. His round included four straight birdies on the front nine.

Maxwell had a two-shot lead over North Vancouver’s Bryn Parry of the Seymour Creek Golf Centre.

West Kelowna’s Dean Claggett of Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy entered play Tuesday in a tie for third with Maxwell’s clubmate Gordon Scutt. Both golfers fired 1-under 71s Monday.

Rob Anderson of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club opened with a 3-over 75 and was in a tie for 20th spot. Lee Alarie of Kelowna’s Gallagher’s Canyon shot a 77.
