The Junior Golds Basketball Team had an up and down week.
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Golds hosted Vernon in their final league game of the season. The Golds won a 48-45 victory on the strength of an 11-0 start to the game.
The Jr. Golds won the league with a record of 27-6 against other junior teams.
Noah Jansen had a good night cleaning the glass with 12 rebounds.
As league champions, Salmon Arm hosted the Zone Playoff “Final Four” Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11.
On Friday, Salmon Arm Secondary played Vernon Christian.
After a shaky start, the Golds settled down and cruised to a 74-25 win.
The Golds were lead in scoring by Alton Neid and Silas Hecker who each had 16 points while Daniel Wyss put up 14.
Saturday’s game was a rematch with Vernon.
“In this game we struggled to shoot. We have been averaging eight three-point baskets a game the last three weeks but managed only three on this night,” said Golds coach Rob Neid.
Neid said Vernon earned the win in Saturday’s game.
Alton Neid led the Golds in this game with 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Wyss chipped in with 10 points and Gavin Limber had 9 points.
The Jr. Golds will be back in action for the Valley Championships, held Feb. 17 and 18 at Westsyde Secondary in Kamloops.
The Golds first round matchup is against Okanagan Mission – the Golds are 2-2 against them in their last four meetings.
