The spotlight for Wednesday’s opening draw at the Scotties B.C. Women’s Curling Championships in Maple Ridge was shining on last year’s finalists.
Even though the matchup between teams skipped by Kelly Scott and Kesa Van Osch was an impressive feature game, Victoria-area rink Team Wark looked to get out of the box quickly at Golden Ears Winter Club.
Listing dual home clubs of the Juan de Fuca and Victoria Curling Centre, Sarah Wark’s foursome features third Simone Brosseau, second Michelle Allen and lead Rachelle Kallechy. They were set to face Amanda Russett from Kamloops in their opening A event game (played after the Gazette’s print deadline).
The fellow Victoria-area rink skipped by Dailene Sivertson features Stephanie Baier at third, Jessie Sanderson at second and Carley St. Blaze playing lead.
Depending upon their results, teams move through the A event, or drop down to B or C draws as they vie for a spot in Sunday’s championship final.
The draws go at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. today (Jan. 23), 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.
