The junior B Cowichan Valley Thunder broke even last week.

Playing on the road on back-to-back nights, the Thunder defeated the Westshore Bears by 10 goals on Thursday, then lost to the Saanich Tigers by the same margin on Friday.

Cowichan was in control all the way against Westshore, leading 4-2 after the first period and 11-7 after the second on their way to a 17-7 victory.

“We pretty much dominated them,” Cowichan head coach Lorne Winship said. “They didn’t have their best lineup; they were missing some of their top offensive guys.”

The Thunder got strong outings from regulars Taylor Martin, Tyson Black and Graham Winship, and midget call-up Brody Black, with Pollo Claxton playing his typically solid game in net.

Against Saanich the following evening, the Thunder were missing some key players of their own, and it showed as they lost 13-3. Cowichan had just 15 runners for the contest, including four who were summoned from the midget ranks.

“We totally got dominated,” Winship said. “We didn’t play well, and they were very motivated after we beat them in our last two games. They beat us in every facet of the game. We were tired and disinterested, by the looks of it.

“It was one of those games I’d like to forget.”

The Thunder have one regular-season game left, hosting Westshore next Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Kerry Park Arena.
