The Ridge Meadows Flames fell to 0-3 this season after a 9-2 loss Wednesday in Aldergrove to the Kodiaks.
The local junior B hockey team doubled its goal total from its first two games, but could not keep the puck out of its own net as Aldergrove feasted on rookie goalie Jordan Eggert in his first start of the regular season.
The Flames got on the board first with a goal from Terence Trusdale late in the first period.
Ridge managed to hold on to the lead until the sixth minute of the second period, when Matthew Luongo scored to put Aldergrove on the board.
The Kodiaks potted a pair later in the period before Dean Gilmore scored to keep the Flames within a goal with the score 3-2.
However, it was all Kodiaks from then on. Aldergrove scored late in the second, and then twice in the first five minutes of the final frame to put them ahead 6-2.
Eggert was pulled in favour of veteran netminder Tyler Klassen, who didn’t fare much better, as the Kodiak were able to put three pucks past him on 13 shots.
The Kodiaks out-shot the Flames 49-35 on the night, while shelling Ridge Meadows 23-9 in the third period alone.
The Flames now find themselves in the basement of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League standings and are still looking for their first win of the season.
The Flames hope to right the ship tonight (Friday) at home at Planet Ice in Maple Ridge against the Richmond Sockeyes. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
