The Ridge Meadows Flames junior B hockey club honoured their own Thursday night at the team’s annual awards banquet.
Rookie of the year honours went to Matt Bissett, who finished first among Flames scorers with 31 goals, second in points with 50, and first in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League with 0.94 goals per game.
Bissett was 11th overall in PIJHL scoring.
Linemate Danny Brandys was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, after leading the team in points in the regular season with 52, despite only playing 30 games.
Marco Ballarin was named the Flames’ most improved player, captain Shane Harle was named most inspirational.
The team’s most valuable forward was Sean Pesut, who led the team in playoff scoring with eight points in six games. The Flames’ named Reece Rivard as their top defensive player.
Adam Bartsch was named the team’s most sportsmanlike player.
The Flames are holding their prospect showcase at Planet Ice in Coquitlam, May 14 to 16 to identify new talent for next season’s team. Spaces still available for forwards and defensemen. The Flames are also running a summer preparation program for peewee/bantam and midget/junior players. The hockey camps consist of eight on-ice sessions in July and August.
