Junior golfers begin Okanagan zone tour

Vernon Golf and Country Club juniors recorded top-10 finishes at the first two stops of the year.

Vernon Golf and Country Club juniors recorded top-10 finishes at the first two stops of the year in the Okanagan Zone 2 Junior Golf Tour in the South Okanagan.

Matthew Kreutz fired a 2-over 75 Sunday at Fairview Mountain in Oliver to finish in a two-way tie for third place, four shots behind the winner, Steven Lee.

Matt McEachran-Law shot 80 to finish in a tie for seventh.

Austin Bosquet (82) was in a tie for 14th place, one shot ahead of clubmate Russell Day. Mac Gourdine carded an 85.

Braeden Cooper lost a playoff in the bantam division to Ethan Hunt. Both topped the leaderboard at 7-over 80. Dexter Weiten fired an 86, good for fifth spot. Daniel Saunders was ninth with a 90 while Hunter Penalva, 12, of Hillview, shot an even 100 to finish tied for 13th.

At Osoyoos Golf Club on Saturday, McEachran-Law tied for third with a 6-over 78, three shots behind winner Cole Baldigara. Bosquet (81) ended up tied for ninth. Kreutz missed the top-10 by one shot, firing an 82, Gourdine shot 84 and Day fired an 86.

Cooper again finished second in the bantam division with an 81. Weiten carded an 83, Saunders shot an 88 and Penalva fired a 97.
