There was a full weekend of golf for local juniors. On Saturday 20 juniors braved difficult course conditions at Granite Point Golf Club in Nelson. Score were high, but in the end Jordan Hoodikoff from Christina Lake took the title with a 4 over par round of 76. In the age divisions Garrett Underwood from Champion Lake took first in the 17 and 18 year category with an 84, Alex Rugg also from Champion Lake finished second with an 87. In the 15 and 16 year division, Amber Arnold was first with an 88 and Isaac Janzen from Creston was second with a 90. One of the best performances on the day came from the 13 and 14 year olds where Nolan Renwick from Granite Point Carded a 79 to finish second overall, but first in his flight. Braden McKay from RTCC was second in 13 and 14 year flight with an 84.
In the skill prizes Garrett Underwood won KP for the 15 – 18 year olds and Ryan Fullerton from RTCC won long drive. Jeff Ashton from Castlegar won KP in 14 and under and Braden McKay took the long drive.
On Sunday more than 30 juniors teed it up at Christina Lake. Conditions were much more conducive for scoring and there were some decent scores out posted. Rock Creek’s, David Launier, started strong, getting to three under par through 3 holes. He, however, made a few mistakes and finished with an 80. Once again the tournament was won by eighteen year old Jordan Hoodikoff. He showed his experience winning his third straight event with a 3 under par round of 69. Tyler McKay, from Rossland Trail, tried to make it interesting, he was one under through 14 holes, but two late bogies led to a one over par round of 73.
In the flights Garrett Underwood from Champion Lake and Brenan Moroney from RTCC both carded identical rounds of 76. The boys went to a three hole playoff and Garrett ended up taking first in the 17 and 18 year division. Tyler McKay took first in the 15 and 16 year category with Isaac Janzen from Creston getting second with a 78. In the 13 – 14 year division Braden McKay from RTCC took first with a 77 and Carson Arcuri from Granite Point taking second.
For the first time in a few years we had enough females to run a female division. Amber Arnold from Castlegar beat MacKenzie Field in a two hole playoff to take first. Both girls posted identical rounds of 88.
In the skill prizes MacKenzie Field won KP for the 15 – 18 year olds and Derik Launier from Rock Creek won it for the 14 and unders. Nolan Renwick was the long drive winner in the 14 and under and Jordan Hoodikoff was the LD champion in the 15 – 18 year division.
