Junior Raiders face off new season Thursday

The Kelowna Raiders are set for the 2015 Thompson Okanagan junior lacrosse season.

After posting a 1-15 record last season, there’s nowhere to go but up for the Kelowna Raiders in 2016.

Refreshed with a new attitude, the Raiders will kick off the new Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League campaign Thursday at home to the South Okanagan Flames.

Game time at Memorial Arena is 7:30 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Kelowna will travel to Kamloops to battle the defending TOJLL champion Venom.

The Raiders are led this season by by captain Chase Bremner, veteran Cam McMillan and Nick Alcorn, who is returning from playing field lacrosse with SFU.

Meanwhile, the Raiders tuned up with a pair of exhibition games over the weekend.

The Raiders posted wins over the Armstrong Shamrocks 10-8, and defending league champion Kamloops Venom, 8-5.

Leading the way for the Raiders was Kristian Beech who racked up seven goals and 19 points.

Other top scorers were Kieran Mackay with four goals and three assists, Greg Batt with three goals and nine points, and Quinn Johnson-Plant with five points. Nick Pilato was solid in net picking up the two wins.

The Raiders were playing with a short bench while awaiting the return of a number of veteran players.
