The Junior Shamrocks have turned their luck around and are now on a four game winning streak after the weekend.
The local squad hit the floor on Saturday over on the mainland when they squared off against the Delta Islanders. With a final score of 23-9, the Junior ‘Rocks were led by Marshal King, playing in his first game of the season after returning from school. He netted a hat trick and five assists. Brad McCulley and Griffin Wilson weren’t far behind with a hat trick each while Nick Preston, Zac Christianson and Cole Pickup all scored two goals. The ‘Rocks outshot the Islanders 70-36.
Sunday afternoon action saw the ‘Rocks tally another win with a hard fought 14-12 victory over the New Westminster Salmonbellies in The Q Centre.
Pickup was back on the top of the score sheet for the Shamrocks with four goals and five assists. Skyler Wilson netted a hat trick while Preston added two goals and four assists. King, McCulley, Wilson, Gabe Harman and Zac Christianson all added a goal while Spencer Erwin had another strong performance between the pipes, making 31 saves.
The Junior squad is on the road this weekend, facing off against the first place Coquitlam Adnacs on Sunday and return to The Q Centre on Saturday, June 24 when they host the Langley Thunder at 5 p.m. They currently sit third in the league standings.
The Intermediate Shamrocks also tallied a win last Sunday as they defeated the Delta Islanders 10-6 while on the road. That leaves the ‘Rocks tied with the Maple Ridge Burrards on top of the league standings and four points ahead of Coquitlam and Langley.
The Intermediate squad has this weekend off and will return to The Q Centre on Saturday, June 24 when they square off against Delta at 1:30 p.m.
