The Langley Junior Thunder flipped the script on Saturday night, rallying from a third-period deficit to force overtime before ultimately winning their junior A lacrosse game 11-8 over the Victoria Junior Shamrocks.
The game was played at Victoria’s Bear Mountain Arena.
And it was in stark contrast to last Thursday (May 9) at the Langley Events Centre when the Thunder blew a lead and lost 11-9 in overtime to the Port Coquitlam Saints.
The results leave Langley in second place in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League standings with a record of 3-1.
Against Victoria, the Shamrocks led 5-2 after one period and were up 7-5 at the second intermission. Langley rallied with two goals in the first 2:12 of the third period to tie the score before Victoria forged ahead five minutes later.
And they nursed that one-goal lead for the next 10 minutes, but with just over two minutes remaining, Adam Will scored his fourth of the game to force overtime.
The extra period was all Langley as they outshot Victoria 11-3 and more importantly, outscored the Shamrocks 3-0.
Sean Lundstrom had two of the goals while Zack Porter had the other.
The trio of Will (three goals, four assists), Lundstrom (four goals, one assist) and Brett Dobray (two goals, five assists) did the bulk of the damage, combining for nine goals and 19 points.
James Rahe had the other goal and William Vanden Hooven had three assists.
Spencer England made 38 saves.
Against the Saints last week, Langley raced out to a 5-0 lead 13 minutes into the game. But Port Coquitlam got on the board prior to intermission and then scored the first three goals of the second period.
The Thunder did lead 6-4 after two periods and 7-6 with less than five minutes remaining but a frantic finish saw the teams combine for five goals in 4:04, including Will forcing overtime for Langley with 19 seconds to play.
But Nash Harrison and Connor Goodwin scored for the Saints in overtime for the 11-9 win.
Will scored twice and had one assist and Dobray had a goal and two assists.
Nathan Henare, Brandon Bull, Johnny Pearson, Rahe and Lundstrom had the other Langley goals.
Ryley Brown made 29 saves.
The Thunder are back in action tonight (May 16) when they host the Burnaby Junior Lakers at the LEC. Game time is 8 p.m.
