Juniors score a ton of goals, earn win

The Nanaimo Timbermen lost 16-13 to the Langley Thunder, then won 15-14 the next day versus the Burnaby Lakers.

The junior A Timbermen played back-to-back barnburners and when the smoke cleared, the T-men had one more win in the standings.

Nanaimo’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League team lost 16-13 to the Langley Thunder on Saturday at Frank Crane Arena, then won 15-14 the next day on the road versus the Burnaby Lakers.

In both games the T-men offence was balanced, particularly in the second game when 11 different players scored goals.

“That is how we are going to be successful, where everybody is involved,” said Dale Nicks, coach of the junior A Timbermen.

In the first game, the T-men were down just 11-10 going into the third, but couldn’t keep pace with the Thunder.

Tyson Roe scored a hat trick for Nanaimo, Paul Brebber had two goals and two assists and Brett Fleming also tallied twice. Other scorers were Ryan Nicks, Bryson Weberg, Evan Benham, Macgregor Johnston, Corey Shires and Mitch Parker.

Pete Dubenski went the distance in the loss.

In the second game, the T-men were able to win despite being outshot 61-44, as the shooters were on target. Roe tallied his second-straight hat trick, Shires had two goals and three assists and Johnston had two and two. Other goals came from Parker, Ryan Hanna, Ryan Vogrig, Fleming, Adam Backular-Evans, Alex McDougall, Nicks and Stu Mills. Dubenski and Cory Mayzes shared the win in goal.
