Nathan Lieuwen, grandson of longtime Houston residents Pete and Betty Lieuwen has been drafted by the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.  Nathan’s father Brian played his minor hockey in Houston.  Nathan had an exceptional post season for the WHL’s Kootenay Ice as he posted a 16-3 record, helped his team win the WHL championship, and earn a berth in the memorial Cup.  He also led the playoffs with a .923 save percentage and a league best 3 shutouts. He was awarded playoff MVP honors. In 2007, Nathan backstopped team Canada to a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka world championship as a 17 year old.
