Vernon Kal Tire FC picked apart last-place Company FC of Kelowna 7-0 Thursday night at MacDonald Park.
The defending playoff champions moved to 4-5 in the Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League. Company dropped to 1-9.
Bryan Schenker poked the ball by the Company keeper to start the scoring. About five minutes later, Chris Ovens found striker Jesse Knight, who turned around a defender and finished for his sixth of the year.
In the second half, Knight passed to Ryan Sharp, who just let the ball slide through to Jeff Nice, who used a little 1516 on the ball for the 3-0 tally.
Shortly after, Sharp picked up a loose ball and made it 4-0. Schenker upped the lead on another breakaway.
Not to be outdone, Knight finished strong getting two more and the hat trick in the last five minutes.
Company FC had their chances but Kal Tire keeper Mark Zaino had the Westwood Electric skills to shut the breaker off for the shutout.
Kal Tire goes up against league-leading Penticton Masters Thursday at Kelowna City Park. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
Central midfielder Denis Chabot came off injured reserve and scored twice as Vernon Kal Tire grounded Winfield 2-0 in Okanagan 55s play Thursday night at MacDonald Park.
Striker Mark DeVolder was knocked to the ground but managed to scoop a pass to Chabot for the first goal, early in the opening 45.
Jenne Huberts took a switch cross from Kevin Mitchell – also returning from two months on IR with a broken arm – and fed a gorgeous high kick to Chabot for a sweet header, near the 75th minute.
Pete (The Heat) Richter made a few clutch stops for the clean sheet, getting bold support from Roger Irving and Ted Sheehan. Chabot took the Burger King Man of the Match. Kal Tire (4-4-1) was without star striker Glen Jones, who was finishing an arts and crafts class with his wife.
In other 55 action, the Penticton TC Auto United clipped the Vernon Silver Stars 4-3 at Reiswig Park in Lake Country.
The 4-4-1 Stars, who were down to 10 men early in the second half, got two goals from Mark Wasylyk and one from John Matejicka. Penticton improved to 6-1-2.
Sir Winston’s Attack brushed back Team Collaborate 4-1 in women’s Divsion 2 play Thursday night at Marshall Field.
New recruit Becky McLennan scored the first goal and earned Most Sportsmanlike Player for playing an unfamiliar position.
Brandi Wejr, the purple team’s stalwart striker, bagged a deuce, while Monika Speitelsbach played a deadly game in midfield, finishing it off with a beautiful long ball that went over the keepers’ head .
Keeper Azra Cawley recorded a double-barrel stop in the first half, but she passed the gloves to Tessa Derksen for the second half. Karinda McGaw was definitely Player of the Match with unparalleled speed, tenacity, and playmaking.
The Rockstars and Do-Itt Drywall battled to a 3-3 draw.
Leah Hildebrand, Leah Willinger and Tessa Hartnell scored for the Rockstars, who trailed 2-0 at the recess.
