Jesse Knight scored a deuce as Vernon Kal Tire iced the Penticton Pinnacles 4-0 in Tree Brewing Kelowna Men’s Soccer League 35+ play Thursday night at Beasley Park.
Kal Tire keeper Damian Adams saw little work as his back line stymied the Pinnacles in a scoreless first half in Lake Country.
The Tiremen came out strong in the final 45 and Knight supplied his fifth of the year on a header off a cross by the Nokomis Landscaping Man of the Match Michael Arding.
A few minutes later, Tim McGowan broke free on a feed from Mark Budgen and buried a low shot.
Geoff Straight curled one in with his magic foot to make it 3-0. In the 60th minute, Arding rang a header off the post.
A couple minutes later, Rodney Goodchild had a goal called back on a controversial call where Goodchild stole the ball from a sprawling Penticton player.
The final goal was scored by Knight off a long feed from defender Ryan Sharp. Dynamic defence was turned in by Pedro Garro, Dave (BX Cidery) Dobernigg and returning Tyler (Falcon) Johnson who flew again all night.
Rob Ross pulled a first-half hat trick and finished with four goals to take the Rob Culos Law Office Man of the Match as the Silver Stars smacked Summerland Rockets 8-1 in Okanagan Men’s 55+ play Thursday night.
Keith Chancellor, Geoff Greenwell, Kerry Zubot and Art Renaud also scored for the Stars, whose keeper Dave Gould saved a penalty.
In other 55+ play, Vernon Kal Tire drew 1-1 with Penticton United at Mission Sports Field #10.
Central midfielder Denis Chabot nicely finished in tight after a nifty feed by striker Glen Jones, who took the Burger King Man of the Match.
The Pinnacles equalized when speedy rookie British central fullback Darryl Pace, a Bristol fan, juked and jived around four defenders before beating keeper Pete (The Heat) Richter, who had no chance. Richter had a great night, scooping several loose balls cleanly.
The Sir Winston’s Attack brushed off the Green Rockets 1-0 in women’s Division II play Thursday night at Marshall #5.
Celine Conly of the Attack played a brilliant first half in net, shutting down some sure goals. Tessa Derksen must have had the luck of the Irish on her side when she maintained the shutout for the second half – despite a few very threatening breakaways from the opposing team.
The purple squad was delighted to welcome Natalie Lussin back – as predicted this roadrunner dominated the midfield and fed some lovely balls up to the eager forwards.
Monika Jatel made a rush down the line look completely effortless, and then crossed a beautiful ball for striker Brandi Wejr to finish.
The 3-0-1 purple squad held the lead thanks to some bold defensive play from Dairy Queen Player of the Match Tammy Dar, as well as consistently smart play from Ashley Straiger and Megan Mackus. Rumour has it newbie Laurie Chickloski was battling a chest cold, but her tenacious tackles and hard balls up the field certainly didn’t reveal it.
Seasons Sistas shut down the Fantastic Four 3-0 at Marshall #4 with Fan Four keeper Kris Ponto keeping the score low.
Sweeper/stopper Olivia Anderson was heard encouraging the defence up to half – catching the 3-0-1 Sistas offside multiple times.
Defender Ruth Delisle has been hiding a massive throw in as she brought the pipes and redirected the Fab Four downfield many times.
Defender Alana Lindsay was aggressive in the back half and worked the line hard to keep the ball away from the Fab Four half.
Stopper Kylie Breton was stellar in front of the 18 yard box – saving many shots and attempted passes from success.
Michele Chabot and Jessica MacNeil hustled on offence and had a few close scoring chances.
